Anyone who knows me knows that I am a girly-girl...as girly as they come. My philosophy on attending sporting events: I can sleep at home for free. However, when you are home on a Friday night (yes, a Friday night) during a writers' strike, your choices are limited. I stumbled upon the Utah Jazz game. I had been a Jazz fan in the past, like 10 years ago, when they were strong playoff contenders, and when Stockton, Malone and Hornacek ruled the hardwood. But as it turns out, I am still a Jazz fan. Who knew? Not only did I watch the entire game on Friday night, I sought out the game on Sunday and rushed home from the gym to catch the game last night! They beat all three teams (the Kings, the Rockets and the Spurs, respectively). They are playing the Knicks tomorrow. Guess who'll be watching that? Plus, Williams and Boozer could give the old players a run for their money. And Kyle Korver? He's just plain hot.

Snow Day
When I woke up this morning and looked out the window at the winter wonderland, I declared today a snow day. And by snow day, I mean sitting in your pajamas all day, with absolutely no intention to leave the house, and showering just to get clean. And I also live by the rule that if you have a day off and you plan on doing anything, you should get it done before the official work day ends (in my case 3:35 p.m.) or it's just not worth doing. So the two things I wanted to do were most definitely done before that time.
#1 -- Make cupcakes.
I made cupcakes using the aforementioned cupcake book. I used their basic cupcake recipe, and they are yummy! The batter was so creamy. I even ate one pre-icing (and everyone knows the best part of a cupcake is the icing).
#2 -- Scrapbook.
I have recently caught the scrapbookin' bug again. My sister, Holly, inspired me. So I have done 3 layouts in the last 2 days. The one I did today was a winter one (in keeping with the 'snow day' theme), and I am really proud of it. The picture of the layout isn't the greatest, but I think you'll get the gist. This layout was done using the January kit from Personal Scrapper. The layout that inspired this one is a layout ironically called Snow Day.

Cleanliness is Next to Neicey Nash
Who wants a clean house? Ahhhh...don't you just love the feeling of a clean house? I just spent the last 2 hours cleaning mine. Now my weekend is free. The sign of a clean house around here is lit candles. So I will leave you with a shot of the top of my entertainment center, and the peace of mind that I'm not wallowing in the filth that was.

Star Wars vs. The Civil Rights Movement
Student 1: Miss Martin, what is the name of the guy who assassinated Martin Luther King Jr.?
Student 2: I heard it was James Earl something.
Student 1: Oh, yeah! I know! James Earl Jones!
Me: James Earl Jones DID NOT kill Dr. King! The assassin's name was James Earl Ray. James Earl Jones is an actor who did the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars.
Student 3: Miss Martin, I bet if James Earl Jones killed Dr. King he would have used a lightsaber.

Current Events
Overheard on the playground today during recess. A bunch of little girls were standing around on the blacktop.
Girl 1: It's freezing out here today.
Girl 2: I know. We should all stand close together to get warm.
(They bunch themselves together as tightly as they can.)
Girl 3: Hey! This is what they call global warming!
And you guys thought kids didn't know what was going on in the world!

Three Little Things That Made Me Happy Today
1. Cupcakes--I got this book for Christmas and I love it. I have yet to make any cupcakes from this book. But I did make some last night from a box, and they are yummy. My friend came over today and we were eating some of them when I heard her say, "I'm cupcaking all over the place!" Huh? Who knew "cupcake" could become a verb. They were kind of messy.
2. Conversation hearts--I know it's too early for Valentines candy, but I can't help myself! If they are going to start putting those things out the day after Christmas, then I'm going to start buying them up! They know exactly what they are doing.
3. A good breakfast--Bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, french toast...basically the House Breakfast at the Other Place Restaurant. Mmmmm boy!
Okay. I just realized that all the little things that made me happy today are food related. Heaven help me! I'm going to the gym tomorrow.

Lookie Here, Lookie Here...
Turns out I can customize a blog! I would be remiss if I didn't thank all of you who chimed in with the help! And like Andrea, I'm not sure I'll be changing my layout anytime soon! But it was fun, and I printed the instructions just in case. Thanks again, everyone, for your support of the new blog! I'm still wrestling with what to fill my posts with. I'm sure it will get easier! Since I spent most of my morning, and apparently now into my afternoon, doing this so I'm off to eat lunch, correct papers, and watch some TV.

Answers and Questions
Here's the thing...I don't want to mention any names, not because I don't trust you, my dear readers, but because it's just foolishness, and I would hate to have someone think I am splashing their name all over the internet in vain! It's just a guy. A dumb guy. Someone I really like(d). Someone who doesn't know what he's missing out on!
Now don't think just because I won't mention his name that I'll be writing cryptically in all of my posts. Oh no. There will be names, dates, times, places, etc.
However, one of my friends, when she found out I was planning to start a blog, said, "Crap. That means I'm going to be making it into some of your posts. Can I have an alias?" So, hello "Lisa"! This one's for you!
Question: Is there anyone out there in bloggerland that can help me through the steps of customizing my blog, you know, with the cute digital scrapbooking kits?

Ghost from the Not-So-Distant-Past
What do you do when someone you have all but written off contacts you? Someone you have worked days, weeks, months to get over? It's unsettling, unnerving, uncalled for and unappreciated! I can't wait to hear from someone again.

High Hopes
I really had such high hopes of getting this thing off the ground today...you know, snazzing it up with some pictures, maybe a customized blog banner, etc. But it's 9:15 p.m. and I want to go to bed. I just wasted 2 hours watching Dance Wars (not sure how I am feeling about this new show as of yet) and I have a faculty meeting in the morning. I'll see what comes of this tomorrow afternoon! As for now goodnight!

Happy New Blog!
Yes, I am doing it. I am starting a blog. I have several friends that blog who are constantly telling me to start one, and I keep telling them that no one wants to hear from a bitter, single girl in Utah. So here you go friends who blog, and friends who are otherwise affliated. This is for you. And maybe down the road this will be more for me.
